The role of Head of Engineering is essential to reaching product development and engineering goals in the wind sector, especially as relates to our flagship PowerCone® and FeatherEdge® technologies. The ideal candidate will play a central role in the development of all products/technologies within the company, providing the necessary experience in product development and optimization with a scope that includes design and validation in markets such as wind, tidal and marine propulsion, to verticals from aerodynamic enhancement features, to manufacturing methodologies and materials advances that harnesses the impact of Evolved Design.

Responsibilities:

Being a young, dynamic organization, Biome uses a combination of internal and external resources, and your role will be to guide projects in this environment while building capabilities internally. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Overall technical responsibility for functionality and safety of Biome’s technologies.

  • Contribute strategically to the Product Management Team, aligning with key stakeholders to set goals and strategy for the team.

  • Provide engineering work-products in accordance with industry specifications and in compliance with industry and engineering standards and regulations. This will mean rolling up your sleeves in the early days.

  • Accountable for your own work products and those of the engineering group.

  • Communicate throughout the engineering group and external engineering partners to manage project timelines, quality, and cost goals.

Key tasks:

  • Work with the CTO to build and evolve the technology and innovation strategy.

  • Work with the Operations and Manufacturing teams to ensure proper output of the engineering department with respect to quality, timing, and costs of work-products.

  • Supervise the Product Development Team.

  • Supervise and coach design, tooling and process engineering internally and externally.

  • Develop engineering budgets and initiate proposals for cycle time and cost-out projects.

  • Oversee and lead technologies through international certification programs.

  • Work cross-functionally with Operations and Sales and act as technical contact person for suppliers.

Requirements:

  • A self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who possesses strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Minimum B.Sc. degree in Engineering and P.E. (Professional Engineering) accreditation

  • 8+ years of experience with operational leadership in the wind or power industry

  • Proven engineering record in a competitive environment with industry, market, and business understanding including experience in composites and rotor-blade design.

  • Experience in leading programs/projects, balancing organizational and customer interests.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects with proven decision-making ability balancing organizational and customer interests.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks Suite, CATIA, Ansys Suite and other relevant software programs. Experience in Bladed or other multi-modal software is preferred, along with python, C++, QBlade and XFoil.

  • Professional English communication skills.
